The 2009 Koden is a pure Tempranillo that uses modern techniques (micro-oxygenation, new oak, etc.) on a young entry-level wine. To be frank, it renders the nose rather devoid of character. The 2008 Koden is a 100% Tempranillo cuvee aged in American oak barriques for 6 months. Cedar, black cherries, tobacco, and spice notes lead to a round, easygoing, smooth-textured red that will provide enjoyment over the next 3-4 years. It is a good value. Despite the fact that it was founded in 1968, Bodegas Luis Alegre is making its debut in this journal. Two white wines were presented for tasting.
