The Barba 2015 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I Vasari Old Vines shows dark, inky concentration, with sticky and rich black fruit. It's almost too much. It is ripe and dark while soft in the mouth, not sour. You'll need to pair this wine with something powerful, like a peppered-up chile con carne. The wine ages in barrique for 15 months. Some 30,000 bottles were made.

Rich and savory up front, with wafts of smoky bacon fat and oak spice layered with the sun-dried cherry, baked black currant, violet and licorice snap flavors.
