The 2011 Pinot Noir Orchard Block comes from 11-year-old vines picked on October 22, fermented in three-ton open top fermenters and aged in French oak for 15 months (44% new). Deep in color, it has an intriguing nose of mulberry, dried orange peel, hints of wild heather and a touch of girolles. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, ripe tannin and fine focus. This is a more intense 2011 Oregon Pinot Noir with commendable depth that builds in the mouth and concludes with an appealing sappiness. All it really lacks is a little length, but otherwise this is a well-crafted Pinot Noir that should age nicely over several years.
