Loaded tight with black fruit, Maraschino cherry and exotic spice, the 2008 Montefalco Sagrantino Fidenzio is a structured, monumental wine that inches across the palate at a snail’s pace. The textured, almost gritty tannins are impossible to ignore and the wine only offers a moderate amount of flesh and fruity soften out that astringency. The results are worthy of the grape, but the wine is nowhere near ready at this young stage. Drink: 2016-2022.
Cantina Tudernum may have run into a bad batch of corks this bottling cycle, because I found cork taint on an oddly high number of samples. Hopefully, this is just coincidental.
