I thought Trefethen's new blend of Eshcol white was too simple and diluted, but their Eshcol red is an attractive, berry and herb-scented wine with fine fleshy flavors. It exhibits good, clean winemaking as well as a soft, silky finish. Made from 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Pinot Noir, 18% Zinfandel, and 8% Merlot, it should be drunk over the next several years.
