The 2011 Mayote, a Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot blend, offers incredible purity and focus to go with ripe blackberry fruit, pepper, licorice and chalky minerality. As with all of these releases, it doesn’t skimp on fruit or texture, yet it stays balanced, has solid mid-palate depth and fine tannin on the finish. It too will have a decade or more of longevity.
The Daou brothers continue to focus on Bordeaux varieties from their estate that’s located high up off of Peachy Canyon Road. Across the board, these wines show fantastic purity of fruit, excellent concentration, and rich, textured personalities that never seem heavy or over-the-top. These are highly recommended and show the quality that’s possible from Bordeaux varieties in Paso Robles.
