Brachetto is not as well known as Moscato, but it, too, is capable of producing wonderful wines. The 2005 Bracchetto d’Acqui offers up sweet candied red fruits, berries, cinnamon and licorice on a medium-bodied frame. This pretty, red sparkling wine can be used for slightly richer dishes than Moscato, such as chocolate-based desserts or cooked (as opposed to fresh) fruit sweets. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2009.Braida is based in Rocchetta Tanaro, in the province of Asti. Although the property is best-known for its large-scaled, super-ripe Barberas, the simpler wines in the range merit close attention as well.Importer: Vinifera Imports, Ronkonkoma, NY; tel.
