Deep polished ruby-colored, with a polite, restrained aromatic profile, this vintage, so disappointing in the northern Rhene, has turned out a surprisingly pleasant La Chapelle. Although understated when compared to the great vintages, the wine exhibits more depth and ripeness than the 1987, medium body, sharp tannin in the finish, good purity, and some of the noted cassis, cedar, and pepper characteristics that this wine can offer. It can be drunk now, but be careful, as its potential for longevity is limited. Anticipated maturity: now-2005. Last tasted 11/95.
