An interesting Einaudi offering is the 1997 Rosso della Langhe, a blend of equal parts Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot aged 18 months in French oak. It is a full-bodied effort with huge levels of fruit and extract, but not much complexity. The new oak is largely hidden by the wine's wealth of jammy red and black fruits. If more complexity emerges, look for the score to rise a few points, but for now, it is a big, thick, monolithic fruit bomb made in an international style. It should drink well for 10-12 years.
