The mindboggling 2007 Bien Nacido cuvee is equaled by the 2006 Syrah Upslope, which I believe is a selection of what Jaffurs believes is the winery’s finest lots. Sweet aromas of charcoal, camphor, blackberries, smoke, and earth jump from the glass of this inky/purple-colored wine. Heady and full-bodied with plenty of minerality as well as admirable precision, it is extremely youthful, yet is already accessible. It promises to evolve for 10-15 years.
