The medium-to-dark ruby-colored 1994 Meritage, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, exhibits a slightly muted dark berry, oak and Asian spice nose as well as a sweet cassis and vanilla-flavored character. This refined, somewhat crafted and "international-styled" wines' pasty tannins did not appeal to me, yet the quality of its beautifully ripe fruit is undeniable. Drink it between 2001-2007.Chateau Ste. Michelle's wines are for the most part beautifully made, well-structured and well-defined. While not all of its offerings can be recommended, it amazes me that a large operation can maintain such high standards.Fax: (425) 488-4657.
