Chateau Ste. Michelle's 1993 Meritage is presented in a tall, heavy glass with a designer label. The wine's dark ruby color is followed by attractive aromas of spice and vanillin, but it possesses an austere, tart personality (because of aggressive acidity), which makes the tannin seem more astringent. A low PH gives the wine an angularity and sinewy feel on the palate. Although this winery has turned out some very fine products, it has gone too far (in my opinion) in turning out politically correct wines following a specific formula. This wine should last for 10-15 years, and perhaps improve.Tel. (206) 488-1133
