The top of the line at Sidewood are the Mappinga bottlings. The 2017 Mappinga Shiraz aged 18 months in a mix of hogsheads and puncheons—all French oak, 35% new. Scents of campfire and wood-grilled meat lead the way, but those are backed and balanced by ripe, plummy fruit, plus hints of peppery spice and wintergreen. It's medium to full-bodied and supple in the mouth, with a long, silky finish. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
