The 2005 DOMAINE MERCOURI is mostly Refosco (85%), the only grape noted on the label, although I’m told there is some Mavrodaphne (15%) blended in. Bright and gamey, with lots of barnyard nuances up front, this has some tannic grip on the average finish and the mid-palate is on the elegant side. While the gamey nuances will not be to everyone’s taste, this wine grew on me a bit as it aired out. Sticking this into a blind tasting will not produce many “Greece” guesses, I’d bet.
