A strong effort in this difficult year, the 2002 La Confession avoids the hardness, austerity, and angularity of many of its right bank peers. This deep ruby/purple-colored effort reveals aromas and flavors of charcoal, black currants, sweet cherries, and licorice. Medium-bodied, powerful, pure, and moderately tannic, it should be drinkable between 2008-2017.With only three vintages under his belt for this particular estate, Jean-Philippe Janoueix (also the creative force behind the Pomerol, La Croix St.-Georges, and the Lalande-de-Pomerol, Chambrun) has burst on the scene with impressive offerings beginning in 2001. La Confession is given malolactic in barrel, extended lees contact, or what the Bordelais call a classic elevage Bourguignon, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot.
