The 2014 Bourgneuf had a backward bouquet, broody and introspective at first, although it opens with aeration to reveal pure blackberry, wild strawberry, cold granite and almost flinty aromas that are very attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is well structured, very linear and represents quite a masculine Bourgneuf compared to recent vintages. I suspect that this has closed up in bottle, though there is the substance to suggest that it will age well over a number of years. Afford it three or four years in the cellar and then it will find its voice.
