If the otherwise highly impressive 1997 Mazis-Chambertin had not revealed some alcoholic warmth in its finish, it would have merited a higher score. Medium to dark ruby-colored, and displaying beguiling and profound red cherry and violet scents, this soft, expansive, medium to full-bodied, and hugely concentrated wine offers exceptional drinking. Complex, hugely powerful, and amazingly persistent, it is a masculine, muscular, yet refined offering. Projected maturity: 2001-2010+.
