The full-bodied 1997 Mergen Chardonnay offers copious quantities of orange/lemony, honeyed fruit, gorgeous freshness, plenty of muscle, excellent purity, and a fine finish. It sees about 20% malolactic fermentation, and is to be admired for its vivacious display of fruit. Drink it over the next year to take advantage of its freshness and exuberance. Trevor Jones is an up and coming star in the Barossa Valley. For my taste, he produces the finest non-wooded Chardonnay in Australia. Importer: Dan Phillips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel.
