The 2004 Ochoa Reserva is a blend of 55% Tempranillo, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Merlot aged 14 months in French and American oak with 30 additional months of bottle aging prior to release. A combination of extended bottle aging and a superior vintage have resulted in a wine with a lovely perfume of sandalwood, lavender, incense, herbs, a hint of balsamic, and blackberry that jumps from the glass. Not quite as impressive in the glass but excellent nevertheless, this is a smooth-textured, elegant, already complex wine that is approachable now but should continue to drink well through 2019.
