The 1997 Rosso Veronese had not yet been bottled, but it appears to be excellent, possibly outstanding. A dark ruby color is accompanied by copious quantities of smoky, blackberry and cherry fruit. This medium to full-bodied wine reveals evidence of cask aging, but is dominated by its earthy, foresty, animal components. That being said, the fruit is extremely fresh, lively, and pure.
