A variety cultivated in Austria and Germany; Washington is the only place in the U.S. where it's grown in any quantity. This example offers a perfumed nose of cherries and berries, a medium body, rich fruit, and a fairly long, tangy finish. The variety's naturally high acidity has been tamed, but enough remains to make it versatile with food. ——W.E.(11/15/1999)—— 89
