The 2003 Wilfreda is a gorgeously complex, southern Rhone-like red made from a blend of 52% Shiraz, 36% Mourvedre, and 12% Grenache (whose vineyards average 30 years of age). Its classic bouquet of pepper, garrigue, cassis, cherries, raspberries, plums, and earth could easily be mistaken for a high class Chateauneuf du Pape. Dense and full-bodied, with superb fruit, supple tannin, and loads of soul as well as character, it should be consumed over the next 5-7 years.
