The 2001 Hermitage blanc (93% Marsanne and 7% Roussanne) is just being released. Aromas of white currants, acacia flowers, and hazelnuts emerge from this medium to full-bodied white. This is a plump, soft, inviting wine. It opens with a bit of gently toasted oatmeal and citrus, then expands on the palate to reveal smoke and lemon custard flavors.
