Harvested at 13.8% natural potential alcohol, the ruby-colored 1997 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Pruliers displays over-ripe grapey aromas interspersed with earth and spices. It is massive, expressive, powerful, and bold. Meaty black fruits, stones, and briary-flavors saturate the palate and linger for 30+ seconds. My score will appear overly conservative if this boisterous offering gains complexity and focus with cellaring. Projected maturity: now-2006+.
