Ancellota, known for its deep color and robust tannins, is grown predominantly in Italy’s Emilio-Romagna and is a blending component in Lambrusco Reggiano. Familia Zuccardi planted a 34 acre vineyard of Ancellota, the first in Argentina, in 1998. The 2006 Textual Ancellota is nearly black in color. It exhibits a bouquet of cedar, pencil lead, plums, and blackberry liqueur. Medium-bodied but firm and structured, the wine has the potential to evolve for 5-7 years. Although more of a curiosity, dedicated wine geeks and master sommeliers might want to stash away a few bottles to see what becomes of this unique wine. The winery also presented a 2006 Textual Caladoc (a crossing of Grenache and Malbec) which appeared to have interesting material but was tainted by cork. All of Zuccardi's Textual wines are excellent values.Familia Zuccardi is a family owned winery started in 1963 when they planted the first vineyard in Maipu, then a desert region, followed in 1973 by a second vineyard in Santa Rosa, another desert. Familia Zuccardi has also been a pioneer in the introduction of non-indigenous varieties into Argentina.
