The 1999 Gattinara, the regular bottling with notes of roses, leather, and eucalyptus on the nose, is made in a nice medium-weight style, continuous and fresh with flavors of minerals and saddle leather along with light, satiny tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2014.
Do not be fooled, by the way, by the fact that this wine lacks the sheer beef of Barolo – it is not short-lived and will stay the course.
