I tasted the 2019 Syrah Lorraine from barrel shortly before it was due to be bottled. It has a medium to deep ruby-purple color and fantastic aromatics that shift from intense blackberry and blueberry jam to sanguine wafts of iodine and game meat, wild mint and garrigue. The full-bodied palate echoes the purity offered on the nose, flooding the mouth with layer after layer of detailed flavors. Abundant, powdery tannins and mouthwatering acidity call you in for another sip, and it finishes with tremendous length. The Lorraine's balance of hedonism, precision, opulence and elegance is especially striking this vintage.
