Based on longevity, potential richness and complexity, Leclerc's finest wine is the Gevrey-Chambertin-Combe aux Moines, made from 80+ year old vines. The 1991 reveals huge density, and a magnificent perfume of black fruits, truffles, herbs, and smoked game. While the ubiquitous new oak is present, it is less pronounced than in Leclerc's other wines. There is huge richness, and full-bodied, powerful flavors oozing with extract, glycerin, and tannin. Like Les Cazetiers, it is best drunk from the late nineties through the first 10-15 years of the next century.The 1991 offerings are immense, even massive red burgundies, which, because of the abnormally low yields, are loaded with flavor. However, they also reveal aggressive wood levels.
