The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark, imposing wine. Initial scents of dark violets, plums and minerals are quite promising and there is wonderful up-front integrity to the fruit, but the wine dries out on the mid-palate, attenuating the finish somewhat abruptly. Shows dark berries and meat on the nose, with hints of fresh mushroom. Full-bodied, with a complex palate of fruit and mahogany, chewy tannins and a long finish. Needs time to come together.
