Of the six red wines presented by Bodegas Aragonesas, the 2004 Fagus de Coto de Hayas was easily the best. It is actually a blend of three vintages with 80% of the wine coming from the 2004 vintage and the balance from 2003 and 2005. It is composed of 100% Grenache from 40- to 50-year-old vines with the wine fermented in barrel and then moved to 100% new French oak. Dark ruby in color, the wine has an attractive nose of pain grille, earth, kirsch and blackberry. Medium bodied with some elegance and a gentle palate feel, the wine has attractive red and black fruit flavors, light tannin and a medium-long, fruity aftertaste. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
