A complex nose of spice box, tobacco smoke, cedar wood, red currants and cherries leads to a full-bodied, dense, dark ruby/garnet-colored Brunello with excellent purity and ripeness. There is moderately high tannin, but the wine is nicely balanced by its rich fruit and extract. It will be better with another 1-2 years of cellaring, and should keep for 15+ years. Gorgeous aromas of Indian spice and ripe berries. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. A bit closed still. Needs time. Antinori's debut Brunello. Best after 2000.

This is Piero Antinori’s first Brunello from this vineyard, and it was made in an immensely friendly international style, with a plump body, velvety tannins and rich flavor. It lacks the astringency and leathery qualities of many ageworthy Brunellos, but for a tasty, early-drinking big-name red, it is almost certain to please.
