Chateau Souverain has been on a roll of late, producing wines that offer excellent price/quality rapport. The current and upcoming releases include exceptional efforts that merit significant interest. As for the red wines, Chateau Souverain is fashioning terrific examples of Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as very good Merlot and Zinfandel. There is also an even less expensive Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley. The 1993 is an excellent wine that should not be overlooked. It is a dense, rich, herb and blackcurrant-scented wine with terrific fruit, a lush, velvety-textured personality, fine depth, and copious quantities of sweet cassis fruit and glycerin in the long, lusty finish.
