It has been a long time since I recommended three wines from St. Clement. The new Japanese owner, Sapporo, has gotten serious about upgrading the quality. I enjoyed the 1991 Merlot. The impressive opaque ruby/purple color is followed by big, rich, black-cherry aromas intermingled with scents of olives. Smooth, rich, and robust, this is a chunky, delicious Merlot for drinking over the next 4-5 years.
