The 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Pruliers (of which there are fewer than 40 cases) smells of sour cherry candy, cough syrup, and incense, mingled with a slightly alkaline note. In the mouth, this introduces beef stock and surprisingly stony mineral underlying character without evincing a lot of primary sweetness of fruit. Salty, meaty, stony notes compose the theme of a finish that certainly doesn’t lack concentration. Again, some residual tannic roughness my be temporarily accentuated. Jerome Chezeaux had just bottled (albeit without filtration) when I visited, so allowances should be made for the possibility that the wines were suffering from this. Also recommended: 2005 Bourgogne (84), 2005 Vosne-Romanee (85+?), 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges (86+?), 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains (?).Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Pine Plains, NY; tel.
