In an irregular vintage, this domaine excelled in 2003. The 2003 Cotes du Rhone is an outstanding buy from a vineyard in Courthezon, planted on sandy soils. Made from 100% Grenache, the 2003 is attractive, plump, and broadly flavored with loads of kirsch, black currant, and licorice notes interwoven with pepper and spice. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. I asked the Usseglios what the most abundant years were over the last decade, and was told they were 2000, followed by 1999, 1998, 2001, 2003, and the smallest crop of all, 2004.Importer: Alain Junguenet, Wines of France, Mountainside, NJ; tel.
