The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru shows the extroverted side of Chambolle in its exuberant dark fruit and powerful tannins. The wine turns more delicate and sensual with time in the glass. The 1er Cru had just been bottled at the time of my visit and there is little doubt it needs time to recover. Still, this is a fairly big style of Chambolle. The 1er Cru is a blend of five vineyards on the south side of the village. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
This is an impressive showing from Drouhin. In my view the 2010s are more interesting and transparent than the 2009s. Veronique Drouhin describes 2010 as a vintage with long-term aging potential, which certainly seems to be the case. Some of the wines were vinified with a portion of whole clusters, including the Corton-Bressandes, Petits-Monts, Charmes and Musigny.
