A blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Gresy 2012 Langhe Virtus is a late release expression that, in this case, hits the market more than 10 years after the harvest. I must admit that Virtus is a wine I fail to fully comprehend. The tertiary tones are always dominant. This is especially true in the 2012 vintage that saw hot and dry winds blow up to Piedmont from Africa for much of the summer months. You get baked cherry, campfire ash, licorice and cured tobacco with rich concentration over a medium-bodied finish. The wine matures in French barrique for 28 months. Production is 9,518 bottles.
