The 2007 Series M is a blend of 32.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32.5% Merlot, 30% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Franc and was raised for 16 months in new French oak. It has a pure, seductive bouquet of small dark cherries, cassis and dark plum, all with very fine delineation. The palate is very harmonious with velvety tannins and texture: lush dark berries, cassis and plum intermingling towards a svelte finish that is as soft as a feather-down pillow. This is a seductive, sensual Vilafonte! Drink now-2017. Vilafonte is a joint venture between renowned California winemaker Zelma Long, viticulturalist Phil Freese and Warwick Estate proprietor Mike Ratcliffe. They only produce two wines, and that are both based on Bordeaux varieties from their 18-hectares of vines in Paarl (though the winery itself is in Stellenbosch.) Considering their price point they both represent excellent value and err towards a lush, sensual, caressing style without becoming cloying or saccharine.
