The 2008 Baglio Soria Santagostino (Nero d’Avola) is an absolutely gorgeous wine that melds the aromatics of Nero d’Avola with the greater textural richness and spiciness of Syrah. A long, polished finish rounds out this attractive red that also happens to be a terrific value. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013. I have to say I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Firriato this year. Across the board this is a very solid line-up, which is particularly impressive considering the estate’s production is now nearly 5 million bottles per year spread across numerous properties in Sicily.
