The 2008 Alfa Spiga is pure Tempranillo from older vineyards aged for two years in oak. The freshness of the vintage provides the nerve for the wine to take the elevage quite well. The wine feels young and unevolved, with primary aromas, an assortment of red and black berries and a medium-bodied palate whose abundant tannins might still benefit from more time in the bottle. Drink now-2018.
This is the third country that I review for O. Fournier. They have wines in Argentina, Chile and in Spain, in Ribera del Duero, the birthplace of owner Jose Manuel Ortega.
