The 2009 Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva is a sharp and well defined red wine with a featherweight approach. The bouquet is delicately nuanced with rose petal, crushed stone, cola and resin. Interestingly, there is also a slightly wild or untamed aspect to this wine with bramble, sour cherry and cured tobacco leaf. In the mouth, this delicate red shows persistence and profound silkiness. This wine is aged in botte grand (for 20 months) as opposed to smaller French oak barrels for a more traditional approach.
