Things get more Wild Duck Creek-like with the 2004 Alan’s Cabernet Vat 1, a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 4% Malbec, and 1% Petit Verdot. A limited production cuvee of less than 200 cases, it reveals a dense ruby/purple color in addition to a big bouquet of crushed rocks, black cherries, cassis, and spicy wood as well as abundant tannin and extract. Aged in 100% new French 300 liter hogsheads, this knock-out Cabernet should drink well for 10-15 years. Importer: Dan Philips, The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA; tel. (888) 472-5283
