The 2003 Belle Terre (which has full malolactic) exhibits hazelnut and tropical fruit characteristics as well as a chewy texture. While it may not have the zing and zest of the Robert Young, it offers loads of flavor in a style not unlike a premier cru from Meursault. This is an excellent value.
There are some terrific values in the Chateau St. Jean portfolio. People complain, with justification, about the high prices of the finest California wines, but this winery releases some offerings that are actually under priced for what’s in the bottle. The values in this portfolio seem obvious, and the winery is to be applauded for that.
