The 1997 Chardonnay Belle Terre Vineyard went through 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine is extremely aromatic in an elegant, Chassagne-Montrachet-like style. Lemon butter, citrus, honeyed beer nuts, and smoky notes are initially attractive. As the wine sits in the glass, apple blossom and mineral characteristics emerge. This medium to full-bodied, cleanly made, impressively constituted Chardonnay can be drunk now as well as over the next 4-6 years.
Kudos to winemaker Steve Reedy and Beringer for what they have accomplished at Chateau St. Jean. Tel. (707) 833-4134; fax (707) 833-4200
