This wine is a bit strange, with very little primary fruit but you do get raisin, lots of raisin, along with road pavement and tar. The 2014 Amarone della Valpolicella is smoky, with notes of tobacco, and with big shoulders too. Bold, large-scale and sweet in the mouth, this Amarone produces hints of candied cherry and medicinal herb, making it a good choice for a spicy meat stew. The alcohol clocks in at 16%, and the residual sugar is 8.5 grams per liter, which is pretty much the threshold for any table wine. The blend is 70% Corvina, 20% Corvinone and 10% Rondinella. It sees 110 days of appassimento and 24 months of aging in barrique. Some 40,000 bottles were made.
