Golden in color and excitingly pure and dusty-mineral on the aromatic and well-concentrated nose, Wagner's 2016 Siefersheim Riesling Porphyr is a gorgeous wine! Lush, lean and piquant but also complex and intense on the palate, with perfectly ripe and intensely aromatic fruit, this is an expressive dry Riesling with moderate 12.5% alcohol, which is often the best weight for a dry Riesling in Germany. The fruit is just perfect because it is ripe, focused and fresh, in perfect balance with the characteristic minerals of the volcanic soils and the stunning acidity of the 2016 vintage. Has this wine ever been better? Did I ever taste a better German Ortswein (village wine)?
