The blockbuster 1999 Shiraz Somerville (100 cases produced) was produced from extremely ripe fruit (16% alcohol, all of it well-concealed), and saw ample amounts of French oak. A superb effort, it offers up notes of vanilla, fudge, blackberries, and currants. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with enough acidity and tannin for definition, this long, super-intense Shiraz can be drunk now, or cellared for 10-15 years.A relatively young vineyard (planted in 1983) situated in the cool climate region of Adelaide Hills, Paracombe's wines are all aged in French and American oak (approximately one-third new), and are bottled unfiltered.Importer: Peter Click, Click Imports, Seattle, WA; tel.
