This set of wines (all 100% Tempranillo) from Cillar de Silos located in Ribera del Duero is impressive from top to bottom. The 2004 Crianza comes from estate vineyards averaging 35 years of age. The wine was aged 13 months in French oak of which 50% was new. Purple in color, it exhibits an attractive nose of toast, tobacco, herbs, black cherry, and licorice. Full-bodied, in the mouth the wine is firm and balanced with abundant black fruits and ripe tannins. There is an overall impression of elegance along with excellent concentration of flavors leading to a long, pure finish. Drink this well-made wine over the next 6-8 years.
