Grapefruit, lemon, and suggestions of smoke and quarry dust emanate from the glass of 2007 Schloss Furstenberg Riesling Kabinett feinherb. In the mouth, a prickly pungency of spice and citrus zest betrays some influence of botrytis as well, and this aspect hangs on through the wine’s virtually-dry, emphatically smoky finish. I suspect this will be best enjoyed over the next couple of years.Florian Weingart’s reputation continues to mount, but he remains always the self-effacing and astute observer of wine, very much including his own.
