The exotic, dense ruby/purple-colored 2000 Bombereto (a single vineyard, 100% Sangiovese) was aged in French oak, one-third of which was new. Barrel sizes ranged from small barriques to large foudres. It offers up copious aromas of smoky espresso intermixed with sweet black cherry and berry fruit, medium body, outstanding density, and a long, licorice and leather-imbued finish. Still tight and youthful, but accessible, it should drink well for a decade.
